REFLECTION ABOUT FALLUJAH
it is late...
i started writing an article about fallujah before the "election". i
drew
from my expereience when i was there in iraq march 2004 with the
"journalist delegation to iraq", i read articles about the basic
history
of iraq, read blogs from fallujah, http://empirenotes.org
i read news reports, listen to audio and watched video clips. i stared at
my monitor and stared. then i put the idea aside. in the interim US and
coalition solders bombed this city of mosques. then went door to door and
ruined and killed everything in their path.
the original reason i went to iraq was to witness first hand the water
treatment centers that were rebuilt by oxfam and to document it. but oxfam
left months before our delegation arrived. to my suprise "occupation
watch" and "global exchange" scheduled such a stop on our tour.
43 miles outside of baghdad, we stood on the banks of the tigris river as
our driver translated the story of an iraqi engineer. he explained how
this particuliar water treatment center was rebuilt. this engineer
envisioned rebuilding 22 more all over iraq. to our suprise it was the
veterns of peace who rebuilt this water treatment center for 22,000
dollars. clean water was now supplied to over 90,000 citizens of fullujah.
eight months later i sit at my home, as my family and community sleep...
as i breath in and as i breath out all i can think of is our sisters and
brothers in iraq and how we can stop this assault...
