Make your local government more transparent.

This is a great idea by a British blogger to encourage local representatives to engage in open dialogue with their constituents through a blog. He has already been successful in at least one case.

Tim Ireland has started proxy-blogging for a Minister of Parliament to show MPs the power and ease of blogging. His proxy-blog is confrontational, but he has suggested most need not be, but rather keep track of local representatives' issues until the representatives take over themselves. I think this is great for increasing dialouge, transparency and ultimately democracy.

This would make a great project for a government, social issues or communications major or activist. The project probably requires a bit of dedication and research, but Tim provides easy step-by-step directions on his call-for-action page. He already has one success story, Sandra Gidley, Liberal Democrat MP for Romsey.
