Bush's class warfare hurts all but the super-rich.
Bush's Other War
Been out of commission for a couple of days, but I wanted to draw attention to this story (http://www.cbc.ca/story/world/national/2005/06/20/spend050620.html?ref=rss), from CBC News. Since 9/11/2001, Congress has approved $350 billion for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Including the $45 billion scheduled to be approved today, that's equal to the amount spent on the entire Korean war, in today's dollars. And I ask you, again, again, and again: for what?
President Bush continues to reject calls for a timetable to begin withdrawing troops; apparently he maintains his belief that, when in a big hole, keep right on digging.
"I think about Iraq every day. Every single day, because I understand we have kids in harm's way," says the President.
Whether this is an understanding recently acquired, or is something he says he understands but does not, doesn't really matter. Bush's priorities remain pernicious; help the rich become richer and encourage the slide of the middle class into dissolution. I think of it as Bush's "other" war--class warfare against the middle and lower classes.
