Many are the indications that the White House is out of touch with reality, both 'real' reality and the political version reality.
Many are the indications that the White House is out of touch with reality, both 'real' reality and the political version reality. Of course, the Mother of all Delusions was born with Vice President Dick Cheney's either naive or purposefully misleading statements to host/sycophant Tim Russert on "Meet the Press" back in March, 2003.Cheney infamously predicted that we will be greeted as liberators in Iraq, after invading the country and overthrowing its government.
More recently, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's remarks to a hand-selected audience of 600 pro-western Egyptians at the American University of Cairo shows that our leaders are operating from a delusional utopian foundation that ignores the complexities of political and social realities. Rice castigated Egypt for not completely fulfilling it's democratic potential, an alienating bit of demagoguery that left her audience cold. Has Condi forgotten that Egypt is one of our primary allies in the middle east? What was the point of insulting them in a public forum? And from what source does Condi draw her moral authority?
How to take seriously a Secretary of State, arguably the second-most powerful position in our form of government, who's apparent grasp of 'real' reality is in doubt? Why is our entire executive branch so disconnected from actuality? Is it simple incompetence? Is it the natural inheritance of ideology from the top down, the top being a creationist president who believes that the Earth is only a few thousand years old? Could it be that the administration is truly bent on destruction and on accelerating the coming Armageddon? Or is it just an attempt to appeal to a vociferous yet statistically inconsequential base of red-state religious extremists, in order to maintain dubiously acquired political capitol?
Incompetence, fired by flawed ideology, is my guess.
