Discussion of Jim Wallis's book God’s Politics: Why the Right Gets in Wrong and the Left Doesn’t Get It hosted by Allegheny Open Arms United Church of Christ at the Church Brew Works on Tuesday evenings.

What’s God’s political agenda? Have you begun to wonder if God is actually a Republican member of the Religion Right? Some American Christians would like you to think that. Of course, God is neither a Republican nor a Democrat. What happened to the agenda we were taught in Sunday school: care for the poor, defense of those unable to care for themselves, and respect for all people because, no matter what our origins, background or lifestyle, everyone is created in the image of God?

God’s Politics: Why the Right Gets in Wrong and the Left Doesn’t Get It is the title of a book by Sojourners magazine editor, Jim Wallis. Self-described as an evangelical Christian, Wallis attempts to engage an authentic discussion of religion and politics in America for today.

Allegheny Open Arms United Church of Christ will lead a discussion of the book, God’s Politics at the Church Brew Works, 325 Liberty Avenue, at 7:00 PM Tuesday evenings beginning September 20. Around the country, hundreds of groups are discussing this provocative book. The free discussion guide is available on sojo.net. The discussions are free and open to the public. Plus, there’s a dollar off draft beers at the Church Brew Works for discussion participants.

Allegheny Open Arms United Church of Christ is a radically-inclusive, open and affirming congregation on Pittsburgh’s North Side. We meet for Sunday services at 10:30 AM at 707 East Street. For more confirmation, call: 412-321-1328.
