download PDF (601.2 kibibytes)

When: May 5th, 2007. Dinner is at 6:30pm and the movie is at 8:00pm.

Where: The Thomas Merton Center, 5125 Penn Avenue

What: With less than half of 2007 behind us, Pittsburgh Organizing Group has organized 10 protest actions, including the nonviolent direct action on March 2 that shut down the National Robotics Engineering Center. Largely because of the March 2 barricade, 17 arrests have been made at POG actions in four months. In addition to March 2, one person was arrested in January for allegedly vandalizing a recruiting station door and two more on April 3 when protesters were viciously attacked by local police for documenting police misconduct. What does all this mean? It means we need money to cover our legal costs. And that means that we're having another FUNdraiser!

On May 5, 1920, anarchist immigrants Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were arrested and accused of murder and robbery. A year later, after an unfair trial, they were found guilty and sentenced to death. After seven years in prison fighting their conviction and their sentence, Sacco and Vanzetti were executed. On the 87th anniversary of their arrests, May 5, 2007, you are invited to join POG for dinner and a documentary about the infamous pair by filmmaker Peter Miller. Dinner will start at 6:30pm and the movie will start at 8:00pm. Plates will be $5 and cups will be $2. The movie is free, but if you didn't get dinner, please remember that this is a fundraiser and drop some money in the hat.
