text The Public Stoning of Martha Stewart: A Lifting of the Veil Joyce Walker 2004-11-01 12:48 PM
Members of the mainstream press flew into Martha Stewart with more than their usual viciousness following her setting out as a political victim. Having nothing substantial to use against her, they have given negative connotations to her success, mocked the domestic skills upon which she has built her life’s work, twisted what she said and misquoted her, and made hateful remarks that could not have gotten past the editor in the days of ethical media practices. Chairman Avakian argues forcefully that, despite appearances, this system is outmoded and vulnerable—that its intolerable oppression can be overthrown, and that we can together forge a new society filled with the ferment of change and liberation. At a time when official and unofficial verdicts have written off the most radical revolution as "impossible and undesirable," Bob Avakian has been creatively re- envisioning the whole communist project. Cardinal Rigali Wrong to Boost Warmonger Bush
On Oct. 3, 2004, Philadelphia’s Cardinal Justin Rigali promoted in a homily, the presidential candidacy of the supposedly pro-life George Bush. Besides the fact that the IRS Tax Code proscribes the clergy from sticking their noses into politics, it is truly ironic that a raving warmonger, like Bush, can be considered pro life. Close to 15,377 civilians and 1,104 U.S. soldiers have died in the Iraqi War. Why isn’t Rigali concerned about that moral issue? (image/jpeg)

text A Response to the "Kerry in Swing State" Petition Signers Sam Husseini 2004-10-23 12:13 PM
Many of the individuals who gave a blanket endorsement to Nader in the 2000 election have signed a petition urging "support for Kerry/Edwards in all swing states, even while we strongly disagree with Kerry's policies on Iraq and other issues." Many warned at the time that some sort of "strategic voting" would be needed in 2000. Clearly, in states which Bush or Kerry have basically stated they will lose -- so-called "non-swing states" -- voting for whoever you want is a no-brainer. ...But if you vote for Kerry -- and bypass Vote Pact as well as "safe state" strategies -- then please don't "hold your nose." Have the simple decency to breath it in. Breath it all in. Kerry's lies, his nauseating hypocrisies. Breath in the reeking Iraqi blood, inhale the rotting corpses; suck in the stench of lies, the posturing; the sickness of the symbiotic relationship he has with Bush. Only then can one possibly discern a sliver of truth or exercise a measure of freedom. (text/html)

text Anarchists around the country are voting for Kerry and against war Chris Crass 2004-10-20 8:31 PM
While there are many anarchists who maintain the traditional line of refusing to vote arguing that voting both legitimizes and strengthens the state - there is a growing number of anarchists who are voting and engaging in electoral politics on local, state and national levels. Right now there are anarchists around the country working in swing states and preparing to get out the vote in an effort to defeat the neocon agenda and send a message to the world that the people of the US do not support the policies of the Bush Administration. This is a sample of recent essays from long-time anarchists Utah Phillips and Starhawk as well as two recent essays that I wrote. Starhawk and I are both strongly encouraging anarchists and left/radicals around the country to either decide to vote and vote Kerry or change their vote from Nader and vote Kerry. In swing states, the race is so close that 200-500 anarchists and radicals voting or changing their votes from Nader to Kerry could change history. (text/plain)

As commercial outlets praise their "dead-heat" patt polls, president Bush keeps his tough talk about marching freedom and replay sept-11th memories to demon strate his total warfare firmness against self-declared terrorists. While reality shows that his neoliberal, privatized efforts in Iraq rather produce, than eliminates hatred, illegalities and playfields for desperate terrorists, he insists his "rough" stance will prevail the situation. But all I know is that this wrong tactic will only breed more destruction, nemesis and more alienation with allies, friends and the reality of the people. (text/plain)

text The US and Russia: Democracy in Check Brandon Batzloff 2004-10-18 8:14 PM
At the end of September, 115 politicians and foreign policy experts signed a letter that was delivered to the heads of NATO and European Union States. The letter criticized Russian President, Vladimir Putin's recent moves to end Democratic process in Russia. One of the recipients of the letter was George Bush, jr. As a man who has moved to end Democratic process in his own country, it would have been very hypocritical of Bush to condemn Putin for his actions. Consequently the only rebuke was Bush stating that he hopes Putin does not abandon Democracy upheld by checks and balances within the Russian government (The First Bush), but even this was ironic. He came over to the United States from his native country, Ireland around 1889, as a little boy of eleven years. text Yesterday and Tomorrow Reinarto Hadipriono 2004-10-08 3:55 AM

What's more, even his feeling that "the future" does exist is but a feeling that he derives from the total recall he had at "the present time" of some "sequential conditions" of the past event. Is it not to be admitted that we ourselves feel that we are constantly at "the present" throughout our lifetime? Now, what do all these talks about our having "the past" and "the future" has to do with us? Is there something wrong with our concept of time or is it our memory that is in the wrong? (text/plain)
