Student strike march
by Rowdy Students Brigade Thursday, Mar. 20, 2003 at 2:28 PM

just a short summary of the student strike march . . . more to come!

Students and non-students took off today after the noon Food Not Bombs workshop today at the University of Pittsburgh, marching and drumming through university buildings and through Oakland.

Students for a short time occupied 120 Lawrence Hall, stopping the class that was in session and calling for students to strike with them.

One student was arrested for disorderly conduct when strikers were attempting to enter the main entrance of the Cathedral of Learning. Students eventually got in through the ground floor, but after being stopped by police decided to head for CMU rather than push the issue.

After stopping to protest the arrest of their fellow striker, students moved on up Forbes Avenue to CMU, marching across the cut and then to Schenley Park. The march ended outside the Frick Fine Arts building and strikers continued with the day of teach ins and workshops.

we also stopped in Hillman Library, disrupting the "studying," or whatever you want to call what goes on in there.

The PFA also held a student sit in from 11am to 3pm. About 20 of us sat in the halls generally disrupting life here at Point Park College. Many that didn't sit expressed solidarity.

Arrests
by - Thursday, Mar. 20, 2003 at 3:52 PM

The one arrest followed a police assault. The officer obviously flipped out and was looking for an excuse for his actions and is probably going to lie about what happened.

Yea HOO
by John Thomas Friday, Mar. 21, 2003 at 1:13 AM

Anyone that marches in a protest against the war is nothing but a coward and unamerican. This country was founded on the principal that everyone should be free from terror and poverty. Why is the cause of anti-war so important to any protestors????? Not for the sake of americans defending the country and potentially dying. Not for compassion to the innocent people that might be hurt or killed in the opposing country....But, for a selfish self image that they are right and can oppose the government by being radicals. THERE ARE DOZENS AND DOZENS of more importnat causes that need tending to but nobody seems to rally towards those issues(drugs, aids, homelessness, poverty, etc)....Before you go and feel that you are almighty and holyer than thou check yourself in the mirror first and get a long look at how your cause if simply that YOUR CAUSE for self image without true need. I am glowing knowing that a bunch of you liberal anti-american people were arrested. That does goes to show GOD does show justice and to those selfish people. Good day and may GOD walk over your selfish souls.

The Bigger Issue?
by Bradford Friday, Mar. 21, 2003 at 3:22 AM

This year, the government will spend more than 396 billion dollars on the military, which it uses to fight a war that is illeagal under international law, Could there be a better use for part of that money? "(drugs, aids, homelessness, poverty, etc) " perhaps?

I encorage you to review your own point of view. I don't ask for you to agree with me, but please read information at the following link for the sake of understanding. Also, share anything you would like us to read.

silent protesting
by confused kid Friday, Mar. 21, 2003 at 8:43 AM

It doesn't matter if you want the war or not, it's here, and it's real. Walking through the street blocking traffic and waving signs makes no difference. I marched in pre-war rallies, but now they just seem counter productive. And as for listing websites, you're not going to find an unbiased website discussing aspects of the war..

Did anyone get photos?

Did anybody (other than the cops) get photos of the Rowdy Student Brigade? Has anybody heard an update on the Rowdy Student who was arrested?

And to John Thomas: please don't make assumptions about why we do what we do. I can tell you why I do it, and that is because I know that silence is complicity, and I will not take part in the destruction that the American government is currently causing.
