for pittsburgh indymedia: update on the 3 jailed victims from today's march and solidarity

To the brothers and sisters involved in the struggle that took place today and has been taking place on an on-going basis, I love you all dearly and have been honored to stand beside such a righteous group of people. As we rally, march and organize it is a constant source of pride for me to look in other's eyes - identifying a sense of purpose and resolution that reflects like mirrors from one person to the other...Today was another round in the struggle to promote the immediate and peaceful end to the war, and supporting our troops by BRINGING THEM HOME!!!

3 of our brothers and sisters were victims of unjustified police aggression today and were put in jail, others suffered the effects of pepper spray discharged with extreme prejudice against the protestors and anyone that happened to be near. As of 12:45 am the clerk at the County Courthouse informed me that all 3 had been released (it sounds like the county courthouse might be getting better at this!) Can anyone verify such releases and provide further information as to their conditions?

In solidarity,
One love

I can confirm the one girl who was arrested was released.

I can also confirm by watching the videos and looking at the pictures that any use of pepper spray was totally justified against you dirty hippies who feel the need to block public streets for your own pathetic agenda. Yet you scream about the US forcing it's will on the rest of the world...stop forcing your will on others and the message will have more meaning.

Update
by Rovin' Workman Monday, Mar. 31, 2003 at 8:36 AM

I was also informed by a court baliff and through other sources that all three were released on their own recognizance around 10:30pm pf 3/30. Looks like the "red, white, and blue" judge was not on duty.

Not to be a pain in the ass, but:

Communism is just as valid an ideology as Democracy. Using "commie" as an insult is pretty weak, particularly if you want to position yourself as a thinking, open-minded person.

Somehow, I do not believe that "thinking, open-minded" were his objectives.

Checking the status...

At 8:30 am this morning I went to the Municipal Courts building downtown to check on the status af those arrested. I received no answer, not even a yes or no if they had been released.
I also went to support those who were arrested and since I was alone there for 2 and a half hours decided to leave.
Sorry I was too late.. But congrats on getting out of prison, all who were arrested.

This coming from a group who labels anyone who disagrees as an uneducated right-wing fascist.

Have you ever even TOUCHED a shred of communist thought or doctrine? or have all of your preconceptions about communism been spoon-fed to you by people like McCarthy. Sorry bud, but blacklisting and the red scare are over. Time to understand that communism is not stalinism. maybe after you become educated about the subject we can discuss it.

i never call people right-wing facists man

dude?!

lets see.
american democracy, 200 plus years of success.
communism, what success?

and the lesson is, what works on paper, and what sounds good-the theory, does not always work in practice.

even our democracy from paper to practice has had things to iron out, but we consistently do that.

enjoy living inside of your fantasy world, i'll enjoy my quite real and wonderful country. and i love it, warts and all. i am sorry you do not, and want to radically change it's structure.

if you want to live in a socialist democracy, a communist society, or whatever, there are plenty of nations to go live. or heck, there are even communes in this country (you will never have to know you live in it).

but thinking that americans who have lived life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, all of their lives, with no guarantees on the outcomes of their pursuits (that is called freedom, and it is a two sided coin), are going to subscribe to the communist manifesto? that is the hardest sell there is. it actually beats a freezer salesperson at the north pole.

oops, i am sorry, that is capitalism huh? all that sale and sell talk.
shame on me for loving my freedom, shame on me for thinking democracy and capitalism are good.

as far as freedom, democracy gives more bang for the buck (there i go again) than anything else, and that is in practice not theory. it is top rate by consumer reports, has the good housekeeping seal of approval, and it is what galant would do (not goofus).

i' m sold (another reference, ah).

see ya, gotta go. i have a john lennon album to go burn. maybe after that i will go to church (a reference to religion or a divine being, oh no).

democracy
by Evan N Tuesday, Apr. 01, 2003 at 5:58 PM

no one is bashing democracy or advocating its destruction. I am advocating a more PURE democracy, one where money isn't in the equation for politicians to accept as bribes, there isnt anything that could be worth more than representing your constituents, if we're talking representative democracy. Of course a dirct democracy is always better, but hard to make.
