Die Zeit: "UN inspectors: Schroeder's peace tactics were 'crazy' "
by Jochen Bittner and Reiner Luyken Wednesday, Apr. 02, 2003 at 8:00 PM

Could this war have been prevented? Yes... but no thanks to Germany, France, Russia, and China.

Two German reporters interviewed several UN weapons inspectors and got an interesting response... for all you peaceniks to read:

What are you saying?
by Phoenix Thursday, Apr. 03, 2003 at 5:55 PM

You really are not making any sense here. You say the war could be averted, which implies you are against war, but then you say the war is France and companies fault. You then say that this is an article for all of us "Peaceniks", implying you are pro-war. The problem is the peace movement does not involve supporting France and company, and therefore by denouncing them you aren't really proving anything, except that you cannot provide something more then a severly ambigous line of rationale. Frankly, I don't know exactly what the hell you suport, or what you are trying to say. I aswell put very little stock in any journalizm that says we cannot give you the names of the people interviewed, and that the journalist added emphasis, but does not mention where. Basicly he is saying that he will add whatever he feels inclined to add, without giving names therefore not allowing anyone to say that was not said...surely sounds like propaganda. Although it may still be true, and it does make sense, the point still remains: you have provided nothing sensible and whatever you support should be just as quick to question your comment as the opposition. If you feel I am wrong, or want to make yourself clear please feel free to post something else, I am truly curious as to what point you are trying to make.

clarification
by Thomas Nephew Tuesday, Apr. 08, 2003 at 10:50 AM

I'm mainly writing to clarify that I, as translator, added the bold emphases to the article, they aren't in the original. (In case that's what you meant by "the journalist added emphasis") You'll find I said this in the post.

I can't speak to what Phoenix supports, or the precise point he was trying to make. I don't think it's inconsistent to raise this issue as a criticism of the German/French approach, whether you are glad, sad, or regretful that the war happened. It speaks to the question "What are your alternatives?" The German/French approach was arguably misguided, say the inspectors Bittner and Luyken interviewed.

Your point that the inspectors were anonymous is valid, as far as it goes. Nevertheless, the inspectors are verifiably under orders not to comment at all, so the anonymity is understandable; Bittner and Luyken had no choice in that respect.

Please translate some of Die Zeit articles about the 9/11 cover-up, especially the interview with the former German defense minister.

No nations, no wars.

take some classes

You mean where Scharping said Jews are behind US policy? I don't have the URL, so I'm working from memory. Here's the Reader's Digest version:

"Jews run US foreign policy. I'm proud to be part of the new wave of Euro-anti-Semitism. Gotta run, I've been canned by my chancellor for being an incompetent embarrassment."

That wasn't the one I was thinking of, but there are some excellent FAUX news articles about the Mosaad-9/11 connection, and their obvious foreknowledge.
