Why would government lie?

Are you suggesting that the feds would lie about such a thing? If true, it would be the biggest story of our time. Instead of denying it, you'd think the feds would open it all up to investigation.

Of course they covered it up. The government lies to us. This isn't Candyland. Wake up. The government, the FBI, and the CIA cover up everything and lie to us constantly. Where have you been?

Think about it for a minute.....The government is in control (more or less) and our lives are a stable routine. Let us now say that we, the citizens, have just learned undisputable news that aliens were real, have landed, and are among us, etc. Now, we have crossed over into a state of awareness that the government is not the most powerful, stable, entity which "provides for the common defense and promotes the general welfare", an entity who has access to the most advance technology on the planet. There suddenly is a much more powerful and capable authority (it must be if it (they) can achieve interstellar travel. Compared to them we are insignificant, and probably could be neutralized by whatever force drives them. Eventually, citizens start to feel very insecure, not only from the standpoint of their personal welfare, but so far as other human beliefs are concerned --religious beliefs, to name one, for example....along with the belief that government is protecting us, is now losing credibility. Before long, mass insecurities relative to these things turns to paranoia and chaos, eventual rioting, looting....you name it. Having said all that, the government at all costs would naturally debunk, lie about, threaten any true witnesses to and generally deny the existance of Alien life forms.
