Iraq has been conquered. Now we must demand aid and self-determination for the Iraqi people. Expanding the scope of the anti-war movement provides an important opportunity to expand its appeal. Many of those who may not have been vehemently opposed to the war may oppose colonial occupation and desire a greater role for the UN.
Here, then, are some suggested demands of the United States government and the UN that the anti-war movement should be making henceforth. Any suggestions, comments, criticisms, etc. are welcome...
1. End the occupation of Iraq.
2. Place the job of rebuilding, providing humanitarian aid, etc. in the hands of the UN.
3. Contribute significant amounts of monetary aid and personnel for the above efforts.
4. Allow the Iraqi people to independently form a new government of their choosing.
5. Lift the sanctions.
6. Allow UN inspections to resume.
7. Oppose efforts to expand the war to Syria and/or Iran.
