Dean Denounces Bush Administration's Fatal Cuts to Financial Aid

Burlington, VT - Today Democratic Presidential candidate, Gov. Howard Dean M.D. denounced the Bush administration's new formula for determining financial aid. According to a recent report, the formula will deny grants to 84,000 students who currently receive aid and reduce grant amounts to hundreds of thousands more.

"Higher education is the foundation of building a better American community", said Gov. Dean. "This president continues to underfund education
in our country, shortchanging opportunity for too many Americans".

The new formula is also expected to lower aid disbursed through non-federal programs. Total consequences are unknown, but a negative impact is expected to be felt across the country by students, families and higher education institutions.

"The American people have had enough of this Administration whose priorities are out of touch with mainstream America", said Dean, "It's that simple."
