"For Pittsburgh Indymedia because I am from Pittsburgh" ~ An Open Letter to the Current Occupants of the White House Concerning the "Operation Iraqi Freedom Strategic Lessons Learned" Report
To George, Dick, and Company:
Just because the recent "Operation Iraqi Freedom Strategic Lessons Learned" report points out a few shortcomings in your otherwise brilliantly planned military liberation of Iraq, doesn't mean we should quit now. A billion dollars a week, every week, is a lot to spend, and since we've spent a billion dollars a week, every week, for the past who-knows-how-many-months, we need to keep spending. Maybe we need to increase spending. Freedom isn't cheap.
Just because many Iraqi people are wishing us gone, doesn't mean that we should leave Iraq. We are there liberating these oil wells--I mean, people--we are there liberating these people, darn it, and everybody knows you have to break a few eggs to make waffles, or scrambled eggs, or something. The Iraqi people should be grateful for the freedom we are giving them.
Just because "the extent of the planning required was underestimated" and "insufficient U.S. government assets existed to accomplish the mission" of finding Saddam's many hundreds of known weapons of mass destruction, doesn't mean we won't find them. Eventually. September looks good. Maybe we'll get that big surprise you hinted about recently?
Just because Gen. Tommy Franks, Gen. Richard B. Myers, and Defense Undersecretary Douglas Feith--and, one must presume, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and yourselves, not to mention all those joint chiefs of staff--were able to find only "limited time available for the development of detailed plans and pre-deployment coordination," doesn't mean there's any incompetence in the highest levels of the U.S. government. Time flies, doesn't it? Money, too.
Just because we've found it necessary to explode depleted-uranium munitions in certain circumstances in Baghdad, doesn't mean a darn thing, except one important thing. We need to teach these people that dirty bombs are wrong. Also violence. It's wrong to provoke the people trying to liberate you.
The report "Operation Iraqi Freedom Strategic Lessons Learned" makes me proud and glad to know that I can trust you all to "always look closely at everything we do to find ways to improve and do better." It makes me so proud and glad, I am volunteering to pay 70 percent of my $7/hour earnings instead of just 35 percent. Hell, I'll just send you my check
I'm also thrilled to learn that Donald Rumsfeld's "joint service warfare" is going so well. The army and navy and air force and marines are all getting along now, like the brothers and sisters they are. We are Fam-A-Lee!
But the best news in the Operation Iraqi Freedom Strategic Lessons Learned" report is hearing how absolutely great we are at "global war gaming" and at blowing real, "time-sensitive" stuff up! Cool!
In total shock and awe of your inestimable governance of my beloved country and any others we choose to liberate, I remain,
A Loyal Citizen of the U.S.A.

This paragraph should read:
I'm also thrilled to learn that Donald Rumsfeld's "joint service warfare" is going so well. The army and navy and air force and marines and local police and FBI and CIA and NSA are all getting along now, like the brothers and sisters they are. We are Fam-A-Lee!
