Free Speech Press Conference and Hearing for Anti-Sweatshop Activist, July 7th, 8:30am
by B. Wob Tuesday, Jul. 06, 2004 at 6:32 PM

Preliminary hearing and press conference for free speech activist to be held July 7, 8:30am at City Court.

Kenneth Miller, No Sweatshops Bucco! activist and member of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) labor union, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at Pittsburgh's City Court, 660 First Ave. at 8:30am July 7th, at which time he and his legal team will challenge the criminal charges against him from his arrest at Point State Park several days ago. A press conference will be held in the lobby of the court building prior to Miller's hearing.

Miller was arrested for disorderly conduct and defiant trespass for his handing-out "sweat free" baseball cards discussing the conditions under which Pittsburgh Pirates' gear is made.

Prior to this, members of Voting is Power and ACORN were turned-away from the park when they tried to engage their fellow Pittsburghers on civic issues. After public outcry over the treatment of Miller and others, from a variety of individuals and organizations, the city has been allowing free speech in Point State Park. Members of No Sweatshops Bucco!, the IWW, Green Party, and ACORN entered the park on July 4th, and conducted their exercise in free speech without physical or legal molestation (if not without police intimidation).

These hearings are public, so please come down to the City Courthouse to attend the press conference and hearing, and show your support for free speech in Pittsburgh and all over the world.

NO SWEATSHOPS, BUCCO!!
