FOR SALE: One medium sized city.
by stephen donahue Tuesday, Sep. 07, 2004 at 12:46 PM

Pittsburgh City Council considering sale of city to corporate advertisors.

Bill # 2004-0461: “Resolution creating the Advertising & Marketing Opportunities Taskforce (AMOT) which shall investigate potential revenue generating opportunities for the City of Pittsburgh including but not limited to outdoor and indoor advertising on or in ALL city owned property (including Parks), street furniture, website, cable television, naming rights of property or facilities, leasing facilities for events or telecommunications equipment.”

So welcome to the Subway City Council chambers in the Pizza Hut City-County Building. After the meeting we can all go over to Verizon Park. After work I will go home to my house on Burger King Street.

Why don’t they just sell the naming rights to the whole fucking city and get this over with. City Council can be replaced with the corporate board of whatever entity buys our city. Good bye Pittsburgh. Hello Wal-Martburgh. Good bye Mayor Murphy. Hello Sam Walton.
