[photo caption]A billboard advertising a big sale at a textile store in Chennai (aka Madras), India. Taken just outside the Chennai airport in July, 2004. During our trip to India this summer, I spoke to an Indian man during a train trip in the middle of the state of Rajasthan. When I asked him a question, he answered, "No English." He then asked me the question I heard most often in India: "What country from?" "USA," I answered. He then said with a big smile, obviously using up the rest of his English, "Bill Clinton!"
