On October 22nd, People Against Police Violence (PAPV) organized a march from the Hill District to downtown Pittsburgh. The march was part of the October 22nd Coalition's national day of action against police brutality and repression: similar actions happened in dozens of cities throughout the country.

With most of the march wearing all black to honor the memory of those who have died from police violence, the march stepped off of Freedom Corner feeling somber yet energized. The permitted march proceeded through downtown, at times overtaking the police that were attempting to lead the march. There was a brief rally at the federal building, and then the march proceeded to the city building on Grant street that houses DA Zappala's office.

DA Zappala has refused to prosecute killer cops, most recently that of the police officer that shot and killed Bernard Rodgers. The marchers were calling for Zappala's resignation, and presented a faux certificate of appreciation to Zappala's office on behalf of the killer cops that walk free today.

As the march chanted: No Justice, No Peace! No racist, police!

The march returned to freedom corner in reasonable spirits, and the day's activities were over. The campaigns against Zappala and the campaigns for justice for all of those who have been victimized by police continue.
