It is time to initiate DIRECT ACTION FOR PUBLIC TRANSIT

On Wednesday November 24, 2004 at 12 Noon, Save Our Transit will hold a news conference and rally at the City-County Building, 414 Grant Street in downtown Pittsburgh. The purpose of this event will be to:

• Express outrage that the Pennsylvania General Assembly failed to act on SB1162 & HB2697 or on any legislation that would have kept public transit in the Commonwealth running.

• Demand that the legislators return to Harrisburg after Thanksgiving and come up with the dedicated and reliable funding that public transit needs.

• Demand that Governor Rendell, PennDOT, and the Southwest PA Commission reach consensus now on the flexing of oil franchise tax revenue for public transit operations.

• Announce plans to begin Direct Action for Public Transit, a stepped up campaign that will include more militant activism and civil disobedience as a means to fight for public transit service.

• Demand that the Port Authority of Allegheny County implement no service reductions or fare hikes even if the state of Pennsylvania should fail to provide any additional operating revenue for this fiscal year.
