POG counter-recruitment action at CMU

A dozen activists disrupt military recruitment at Carnegie Mellon University.

Pittsburgh, April 26, 2003 - Earlier today at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) a dozen activists from Pittsburgh Organizing Group, including several CMU students, disrupted two Army recruiters tabling at the University Center. The group surrounded the recruiters and held up a large banner that read, "Resistance is Fertile," effectively blocking the view of the recruiters from passersby.
Participants in the action passed out counter recruitment literature and talked to students about why they were trying to disrupt the recruiters. Some even engaged the recruiters in conversation. At one point during the action, one activist grabbed the Army recruitment literature and ran off, making it even harder for the recruiters to do their thing.
CMU security called the police, who showed up within 20 minutes and threatend to arrest the activists if they did not leave. The group chanted "Recruiters off Campus!" for a minute or two and then left without incident.
