2000 Too Many - Women Marching for Peace
by marie Friday, Oct. 28, 2005 at 2:01 PM

On Wednesday, October 26, the day after the 2000th U.S. soldier was killed, a candlelit silent vigil and march through Oakland was held by members of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), the Women’s League For Peace and Freedom (WILPF), and Code Pink. Over 100 people gathered at the Friends Meeting House at 5:30. The Raging Grannies sang and Diane Santoriello spoke. She is a Penn Hills resident who’s son, Neil, died while serving in Iraq. The march ended in Oakland at the Dinosaur in front of Carnegie Library. Organizers read the names of the dead in closing.
