Stand Up to Military Recruitment on "National Stand Down Day"

On Friday, November 18th, join Pittsburgh Organizing Group (POG) for a cantankerous picket outside the Forbes Ave. military recruiting station in Oakland. Bring drums, whistles and other noisemakers as we turn up the volume at our ongoing series of protests at the Oakland station. Bring chalk and other props as we draw attention to the fact that we are not at ease with recruiters and to demand that they stand down from military recruitment in our town.

Recruiters use every dirty trick in the book--including outright lies--to fool people here in the U.S. into joining the military to face death and injury in Bush's endless war. By denying the government the bodies needed to wage war, we are denying it the ability to fight wars. And with reports surfacing that recruiters are missing their enlistment targets by huge margins, it would seem that the growing movement against military recruitment is working.

Friday's protest is part of "National Stand Down Day," a national day of action at recruiting centers across the country sponsored by the Iraq Pledge of Resistance. The picket also marks POG's 15th visit to the Oakland station since May 2005, when POG started a local counter-recruitment campaign.

Let's tell it to recruiters: Stand Down, No Recruitment in Our Town!
