Feb 27- Anti-War/Counter-Recruitment protest

Feb 27- Anti-War/Counter-Recruitment protest

Join Pittsburgh Organizing Group Monday, February 27 from 5pm to 7pm as we again protest at the military recruiting station, 3712 Forbes Ave. in Oakland.

Words and statistics only tell a small part of the story, they only go so far. There is no word to encompass the pain of losing one dearest to you, nor can a number on a screen followed by a bunch of zeros truly convey the very real and often catastrophic consequences of the cost of this war. Our voices our choked with the rage of knowing how much we continue to fall short of fulfilling our collective responsibility to stop the war and those behind it. We are suffocating under the weight of trying to comprehend and address our role in this madness.

Everyone is responsible for the predictable consequences of their actions. None of us are non-violent observers to these affairs; everyone in the US are violently complicit in this war. It is our tax money that buys the bombs that make war possible, our continued participation in this society that allows the system‚s killing machine to continue to function with its smooth precision, and in many cases our personal refusal to risk our privilege that works against our chances of wining real victories.

The first time the threat of war passed Bush lie drenched lips people of good will around this nation should have rose up; occupying recruiting stations, shutting down weapons producers, and disrupting the lives and profits of all those willing to send others to die in furtherance of a system of domination and exploitation. Regrettably, that level of resistance did not occur. But the resistance and education that the anti-war movement engaged in did make a difference and was worthwhile. Much as it was in early 2003 our movements once again stand at a crucial junction, with hard decisions to be made, and the real possibility of winning small and large victories before us. The question always comes back to the question of choices. The counter-recruitment movement offers us a chance to make a tangible difference, if we are willing to make the necessary choices. Can we keep up a sustained campaign? Can we take real risks? Are we willing to put our bodies on the line? To continue the risk of scorn and repression? We believe Pittsburgh‚s answer over the next 6 months will be one of continued and escalating resistance.

Join us Feb 27 for the last picket before the weekend of actions marking the war‚s 3-year anniversary.

Our day will come,

Pittsburgh Organizing Group

Wouldn't it make sense to publicize these more widely?

umm, there's only so many of us ya know. It's pretty hard to keep a long term campaign going. any lack of outreach is solely a product of available resources- not any type of commentary on how important it is to get the word out.

Oh come on!

Wouldn't it make sense to announce this protest more than 4 days prior to its occurrence? I would have gone had I actually known about it.

well it was announced on the organizing groups website for more than 3 weeks!!! and beyond that it was sent out as an upcoming event in emails sent out by the organizing group more than 2 weeks prior to the event.

if you would like more advanced notice I recommend either checking the website or getting on the email announcement list.
