Harrisburg Mourns 3 Year Aggression in Iraq

crowd and speakers on pennsylvania capitol steps. saturday, march 18, 2006. mourning 3 years of occupation, 15 years of US aggression, and over a million dead...
several speakers spoke in front of the commonwealth capitol. just over a hundred people gathered from 11 am til noon. after the memorial, a march proceeded uptown to governor rendell's mansion. marchers demand a return of pennsylvania armed guard from iraq.
on the steps, speakers included representatives from the PA green party, presbyterian church, a relative of military service people, a palestinian nurse and a call to rethink capitalism and the genocide it thrives on. from the americas and africa to viet nam and iraq, murder and thievery is the basis of modern capitalism. a poem was read in closing and the march began. it was a clear beautiful day but bitterly cold. one special guest from AnotherWorldIsPossible in seattle distributed copies of the heart-breakingly REAL independent dvd "Occupier/Occupied." pictured here are some of the speakers. this aggression is a war crime! let's end it now!

note flag at half mast. for over a million iraqi deaths since 1991 and thousands of dead americans? for some iraqi children, US bombs, bullets, and deadly sanctions is all they have ever known. over 500,000 children under the age of 5 are now dead. and more are dying every day.

lets not forget how this US assault began with 6 weeks of massacring civilians in 1991 with guided "SMART" bombs. after 15 years, very little remains undamaged in this cradle of civilization.....almost all of some our protesters' lives! and ending thousands of iraqi lives....

"occupier/occupied" is an extraordinary look at how iraqi civilians were affected by just the first 6 months of the current 3 year siege. and the decade of starvation and lack of medicine caused by sanctions and weekly "no fly zone" bombings.
