In this interview, Alexander provides a concise and informative history of the reasons behind the dramatic teachers' strike in Oaxaca, and explains the motives behind the state and federal police repression of the non-violent union and non-union protestors. Based on her recent visit to Oaxaca with human rights lawyers, journalists, authors, investigators, graduate students, and activists, Alexander recounts the personal stories of abducted protestors, and provides an up-to-date assessment of Oaxaca's present political situation.
