Message from John Ashcroft on April 1
by Iamafool Tuesday, Apr. 01, 2003 at 4:46 PM
one@two.three

Attorney General John Ashcroft has reviewed the actions of the Pittsburgh Police department on March 20 and March 30. Here is his statement.

"From the US Attorney General: We must remember that the foundation of American freedom is free-speech. As the first amendment says, there shall be NO attempt made to limit speech. I have reviewed the actions of the Pittsburgh Police department and have concluded that they acted solely on the basis of their political instincts. Such actions are wholly inconsistent with the actions of patriotic civil servants. As a result, I have asked the District Attorney to drop all charges against all demonstrators. Furthermore, I have asked the Merton Center and the Pittsburgh Organizing Committee to nominate representatives for a new Homeland Freedom board that will ensure that all citizens have the right to dissent and the right to fair, professional treatment by police officers."

I am sorry
by Steven Zappal Tuesday, Apr. 01, 2003 at 5:33 PM

On behalf of the citizens of Pittsburgh, I would like to apologize to every individual who was wrongly arrested on March 20 and on March 30.

I know that, though your actions, you are patriotic citizens. You love your country, which is why you take the time to vigorously offer your opinion.

As a reflection of our remorse over this situation, I am pleased to announce that each person who was arrested will receive free tickets to this Sunday's Pirates game.

We will also be holding a joint Police Department/ACLU bake sale on Saturday. All are welcome to participate.

Police Department - ACLU Bake Sale
by Ryme Tuesday, Apr. 01, 2003 at 10:11 PM

Correction:

The Police-ACLU event on Saturday is not really a bake sale. It is a pot-luck picnic. There will also be some pastries for sale, however.

Should be a lot of fun. See you there.
