Bush is not Hitler
by Prescott Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003 at 2:01 PM

Bush is no Hitler

When Hitler took office in early 1933, there were over 6 million Germans out of work; in 1935, that number was already well under 3 million, dropping to under 1 million by the end of 1936. Under Bush, the American unemployment rate has skyrocketed and layoffs continue to mount.

Hitler built the autobahns, virtually inventing the freeway. Under George W. Bush, Amtrak and America's airlines are bankrupt, putting transportation into its worst crisis in history.

Hitler was a completely self-made man. He came out of poverty and rose to the top with no help from his father. Bush rose to power purely through the guiding hand of his father and his father's oil friends.
Hitler was the first to unify Europe under a common currency and single foreign policy, inspiring the European Union of today. Bush's unilateralism has split the international coalition, causing annoying arguments among trekkers at youth hostels the world over.

Hitler was a captivating speaker, inspiring throngs of Germans to lift their right arms at a 45-degree angle. Bush has difficulty remembering each and every tiny little syllable, causing American intellectuals to curl the right sides of their mouths into what is known as a sneer.
When no one attacked Germany, Hitler would attack and destroy them anyway. When Saudi Arabia attacked the United States, Bush helped to shuttle the bin Laden family out of America while deferentially referring to the Saudis as our friends.

Hitler introduced the blitzkrieg. Bush introduced the strongly-worded UN resolution.

Hitler believed in astrology. Bush believes in Southern Baptism.

Hitler was scary. Bush is silly. Hitler scowled. Bush smirks. Hitler started out as a painter. Bush began as a partier. Hitler preferred to rest in a picturesque mountain retreat. Bush prefers the arid wasteland of Crawford. Hitler's unit was uncut; Bush's is cut. Hitler spoke German. Bush speaks English. Hitler's wife was named Eva. Bush's wife is named Laura. Hitler's last name began with an H. Bush's last name begins with a B.
Hitler had a mustache.Hitler was elected.

If the sender of the cartoon is suggesting that people who disagree with his political positions should actually be carved by knives until dead, then the sender must know he is making a direct threat on the lives of people. That, Sir, is a crime. An attorney has heard about this.

You Leftists are absolute dolts. First of all It's A CARTOON. Secondly, IT'S A JOKE. Third, If you had the ability to follow logical thought you might have noticed that the cute little girl from the Murder Family was the last post in a string of postings. It was (now pay attention 'cause I am only going to explain this once) a rhetorical response to the whole string of statements about how Hitler was a mass murder and Bush is not, but then there was my last post (wink wink) that shows a delightful little mass murder mocking the phrase that you would expect to hear from a Nazi of the 1930's (or at least from an Dr, Strangelove).

So it was a joke. But you leftists with all your political correct BS have lost teh ability to laugh at yourselves adn anyoen else. As such you are humroles and just no fun at all. Your kind of like thos Arab Islamist in that regard. In fact, I beleive it is the lack of humor that makes them such antisocial murderous lunatics. In fact, I worte a haiku about it:

You are all a bunch of stupid asses. I cannot believe that someone generated all of this "discussion" because they thought that a cartoon with a couple of bloody knives was some kind of threat. How dum are we. These freepers are right. We are walking around with targets on our backs if this is how we react to this shit. Whoever the ass was that thought that the Manson kid was some sort of threat should have noticed that she is wearing Charlie Brown's shirt. Kind of tells me that there is some joke in there.

So far, in just the past three days, there has been someone talking about how Hitler is better when compared to Bush. Bush ain't great, but Hitler he ain't, and if this is what we are promoting here we are just showing the world that the freepers are right. Then there was the wild discussion over whether or not someone stole someone else's anonymous identity. Then there was this whole freeper master plan for how to 'convert' us all from liberal democratic thought to the kinder and gentler Republican way of life, and no one thought that was as offensive as a friggin cartoon of Sara Manson in a Charlie Brown shirt.

To quote another great cartoon "I have met the enemy, and we is them." -- Pogo.

Yes, I suggested that you get rid of the .jpg or whatever picture of GW. If you read what I said at the time you will see that I was suggesting it so that you didn't end up in the same soup that others around the country did for doing the same thing. I did not go off on a tyrade about calling a lawyer and hunting you down with an agree mob. The cartoons posted here are, well I know I have tried to point this out before with limited success, but they are .... CARTOONS. None of these posting depict a living person, a specific individual, or refer to a specific action.

You may be correct in not agreeing with my earlier assessment that we should eat the leftists first. As I think about it they would be far too bitter, take to long to tenderize, and probably are not healthy for you since they tend to have poor vegetable based diets and seem to use illicit drugs with impunity. It was just a modest proposal anyway.

Besides, the picture of GW wasn't funny. These cartoons are funny. But you aren't funny either. If only you were a cartoon, then the world would be a better place.

You see, I fully "envisioned" your point of view with your posting advocating the violent murder of the President. I found it dangerous and offensive. I even thought it illegal. I did not subscribe to hat point of view (and still don't, and never will). You on the other hand can not "envision" the irony, satire or humor of ... a cartoon. You are apparently too hung up on "envisioning" your rationalizations in your own little coccoon of a world.

So here, try this -- "Envision whirled peas"

Now tyr this -- "Envision world peace"

Do they look at all alike? No. But I still find whirled peas disgusting and offensive. And world peace is still a cartoon.

Ideed, I checked, and the posting was not yours. Instead, I had confused your vehement support of both the position taken by the suggestions of the posting, and your own opinions in regards to the posting, as the original posting being yours.

For all .. Mary did not post the illegal photo advocating harm to the President ofthe United States. She only supported it, with out reservation.

BTW: Nothing libelous about it. you supported the postion of the original posting, you had the ability to remove it, you did not, therefor you aided and abetted if nothing else. As for libel, IMC is famous for slandering and libeling the "alternative press" contingent on these pages. Mary, at the risk of being libelous, you should leave the interpretation of the law to someone who knows what they are talking about (i.e. that ain't you).

As an "editor" for IMC you also subscribed IMC to that position by not acting to remove once aware that it was potentially illegal and advocated violence agaisnt an identiied individual. IMC is no longer a passive bulletin board, but became an active publisher and distributor. My origianl response was intended to communicate that risk to IMC for the benefit of IMC and all here. But as y=ussual (and at the risk of being called "libvelous") you know more than anyone else and were given to the usual attack rather than even consider that I may have been actually trying to help you. by Mary Monday, Nov. 17, 2003 at 8:43 AM

Everyone has the right (and perhaps even the duty) to read and think for themselves.

It's obnoxious when people suggest that someone leave interpretation of law, reading of constitution, thinking, and so on, to someone else.

It would be obnoxious *even* if the person making the suggestion were intelligent, thoughtful, well-meaning, well-read (as if a thoughtful and well-meaning person would make such suggestions). It's worse when it is someone who has demonstrated none of those qualities.

LEARN TO READ/or just learn somethign, for God sake already
by Ewan Kenkesmearse Monday, Nov. 17, 2003 at 10:04 AM

2Beers,

Mary did not support the posting, as you say, "without reservation." She actually said that she found the image disgusting and did not advocate violence of any type. check the link:

http://www.indypgh.com/news/2003/07/7526_comment.php#7560

Even though you may believe that the posting advocated violence, it is merely an expression of the position that Bush, like the progeny of Saddam Hussein, is also viewed by many as an imperial war criminal for having unleashed war upon an innocent population of a sovereign state which had indicated no threat to the United States. For his unilateral acts of agression, utilizing the full power of the office of the POTUS, he could, arguably, be seen as a war criminal by much of the world.

This is a protected right of free speech in the United States (at least until the Bush Monarchy was appointed). Mary's actions support only that sentiment and position of the original posting AND NOT the promotion of any act of violence or illegality. Although your statements do not rise to the level of libel or slander, as your interpreatation of the original posting is, arguably, a reasonable one, and the statements throughout the discussion string seem to, at least, support or suggest some (to put it politely) ill will toward the President, you should refrain from attempting to hold anyone's stated (and restated and restated) opinions in a false light.

Or would you like us to start saying that your rather uncharacteristic fondness for poetry is clearly evidence of your own confused self-image, a desperate attempt to externalize your self-doubts over your westernized image of masculinity and possibly your own sexuality.

Moronic? No, unilateral was the right term if you're talking about real public support, and surely in a "democracy" that's what counts right?. The only ones "there" for "you" were Tony Blair, John Howard and Silvio Berlusconi. The vast majority of the UK, Australian, Italian and - yes - Polish populations (http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/0308-03.htm) were against the war, although you could be forgiven for not knowing that through the US media. Just wait and see during GW's visit to the UK this week how much the population of that country wanted to be involved in the US' Iraq fiasco.

Mark Steyn: It's 'peace' psychosis in a nut's hell
The Telegraph (U.K.) ^ | 11/18/03 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 11/17/2003 6:32 PM CST by Pokey78

If you're so inclined, you can spend the week listening to long speeches by George Galloway and Harold Pinter. Or you can cut to the chase and get the message from Maulana Inyadullah. In late September 2001 Mr Inyadullah was holed up in Peshawar awaiting the call to arms against the Great Satan and offered this pithy soundbite to the Telegraph's David Blair:

"The Americans love Pepsi-Cola, we love death."

That's it in a nutshell - or in a nut's hell. And, like Mr Inyadullah, if it's Pepsi or death, the fellows on the streets of London this week choose death - at least for the Iraqis. If it's a choice between letting some carbonated-beverage crony of Dick Cheney get a piece of the Nasariyah soft-drinks market or allowing Saddam to go on feeding his subjects feet-first into the industrial shredder for another decade or three, then the "peace" activists will take the lesser of two evils - ie, crank up the shredder. Better yet, end UN sanctions so Saddam can replace the older, less reliable shredders, the ones with too many bits of bone tissue jammed in the cogs.

Well, Saddam's gone, on the run with no Grecian 2000 and all out of Quality Street. But it's a measure of the intensity of this psychosis that the "Stop The War" crowd may well manage to turn out more people this week than they did during the war. The war stopped six months ago, some 80 per cent of Iraq is peaceful and well governed, and the overwhelming majority of Iraqis I spoke to when I was there want the Americans to stay, rather than cut and run like the UN, Oxfam and co. But screw the Iraqi people; the "peace" crowd know better than the ignorant natives what's good for them.

So this week they'll be splashing red paint hither and yon to symbolise all the Iraqi blood spilled by Bush. In yesterday's Independent , Dr David Lowry noted that Medact, a respected NGO of British medical chappies, has decided that, since the start of the Iraq war in March, between 7,800 and 9,600 civilians have died. This is presumably the same Medact that a year ago predicted that in the Iraq war and the three months following 260,000 would die, with a further 200,000 succumbing to disease and famine, and another 20,000 getting killed in the ensuing civil war.

Given that they've now revised their figures downwards by 98 per cent, it would be nice to think the protesters might reduce their budget for gallons of Dulux Mesopotamian Burgundy Gloss by a commensurate amount. The rest of us should pelt Medact with rotten tomatoes symbolising all the blood that wasn't spilt. Alternatively, they could symbolise Harold Pinter's graphically leaking rectum. In this paper before the war, Mr Pinter assured us that millions of Iraqi children's rectums were chronically leaking blood - something to do with depleted uranium from the Yanks. In every medical facility I visited in western and northern Iraq, I inquired about this phenomenon and found no one who knew of a single sufferer.

If the anti-war cause is so just, it seems odd that it has to be so risibly "sexed up" by Medact and the rest, but the post-9/11 grand harmonic convergence of all the world's loser ideologies, from Islamic fundamentalism to French condescension, is untroubled by anything so humdrum as reality or logic. There's "no connection" between Saddam and al-Qa'eda, because radical Islamists would never make common cause with secular Ba'athists. Or so we're told by pro-gay, pro-feminist Eurolefties who thus make common cause with honour-killing, sodomite-beheading Islamists, apparently crediting Saddam with a greater degree of intellectual coherence than they credit themselves.

The fanatical Muslims despise America because it's all lapdancing and gay porn; the secular Europeans despise America because it's all born-again Christians hung up on abortion; the anti-Semites despise America because it's controlled by Jews. Too Jewish, too Christian, too Godless, America is also too isolationist, except when it's too imperialist. And even its imperialism is too vulgar and arriviste to appeal to real imperialists: let's face it, the ghastly Yanks never stick it to the fuzzy-wuzzy with the dash and lan of the Bengal Lancers, which appears to be the principal complaint of Sir Max Hastings and his ilk. To the mullahs, America is the Great Satan, a wily seducer; to the Gaullists, America is the Great Cretin, a culture so self-evidently moronic that only stump-toothed inbred Appalachian lardbutts could possibly fall for it. American popular culture is utterly worthless, except when one of its proponents - Michael Moore, Sean Penn, Susan Sarandon - attacks Bush, in which case he or she is showered with European awards and sees the foreign-language rights for his latest tract sell for six figures at Frankfurt. The fact that the best-selling anti-Americans are themselves American - Moore, Chomsky - is perhaps the cruellest manifestation of the suffocating grip of the hyperpower.

Too Christian, too Godless, too isolationist, too imperialist, too seductive, too cretinous, America is George Orwell's Room 101: whatever your bugbear, you will find it therein - for the Continentals, excessive religiosity; for the Muslims, excessive decadence; for Harold Pinter, excessively bleeding rectums.

So be it. This is a psychosis so impervious to reason that on Thursday those in the most advanced stage will pour into the streets to re-enact the toppling of Saddam's statue with Bush on the podium. The 40 per cent of Britons who merely think the President "stupid" will cheer from their sofas.

Two years ago, NBC held a discussion on the growing alienation of the Muslim world: the al-Munaif family who, after the Kuwaiti liberation, had "slaughtered sheep in tribute to one President Bush", were now disenchanted and had named their newborn son "Osama". While the Arabists on the NBC panel chewed over the problem thoughtfully, on this page I was more insouciant: there's no point trying to figure out which way a guy who sacrifices sheep will jump. That's the way I feel about this week's polls and protests. The Min of Ag has already sacrificed all the sheep, but, that detail aside, much of Britain is now about as rational on America as the al-Munaif family. My advice to Bush is: make sure you know where the exit is and try to avoid eye contact.

Alan Travis and David Gow Tuesday November 18, 2003 The Guardian

A majority of Labour voters welcome President George Bush's state visit to Britain which starts today, according to November's Guardian/ICM opinion poll.

The survey shows that public opinion in Britain is overwhelmingly pro-American with 62% of voters believing that the US is "generally speaking a force for good, not evil, in the world". It explodes the conventional political wisdom at Westminster that Mr Bush's visit will prove damaging to Tony Blair. Only 15% of British voters agree with the idea that America is the "evil empire" in the world.

Mr Blair insisted last night that he had made the right decision in inviting Mr Bush to Britain as an unprecedented security operation got under way to prepare for his arrival today. More than 14,000 police officers at a cost of 5m will be on duty during the four-day visit, with tens of thousands of anti-war protesters are expected to take to the streets.

The ICM poll also uncovers a surge in pro-war sentiment in the past two months as suicide bombers have stepped up their attacks on western targets and troops in Iraq. Opposition to the war has slumped by 12 points since September to only 41% of all voters. At the same time those who believe the war was justified has jumped 9 points to 47% of voters.

This swing in the mood of British voters is echoed in the poll's finding that two-thirds of voters believe British and American troops should not pull out of Iraq now but instead stay until the situation is "more stable".

It also may explain the beginnings of a recovery in Tony Blair's personal ratings in this month's Guardian poll. He still remains an unpopular prime minister with 52% unhappy with the job he is doing, compared with 40% who say they are satisfied with his performance. But the prime minister's net popularity rating of minus 12 points is a significant improvement over last month's net rating of minus 18 points.

The detailed results of the poll show that more people - 43% - say they welcome George Bush's arrival in Britain than the 36% who say they would prefer he did not come.

Labour voters are more enthusiastic about the visit than Tory voters. But it is only Liberal Democrats who are marginally more unhappy about his arrival, with 43% against and 39% willing to welcome him. A majority of "twentysomethings" welcome Mr Bush. Hostility is strongest amongst the over-65s. There is a clear gender gap in attitudes with a majority of men - 51% - welcoming the president's arrival, compared with only 35% of women.

Pro-Americanism, as might be expected, is strongest among Tory voters with 71% saying the US is a force for good. But it is nearly matched by the 66% of Labour voters who say the US is a force for good. Anti-Americanism is strongest among Liberal Democrat voters but is still only shared by 24% of them and the majority see the US as the "good guys".

Mr Blair told the CBI national conference in Birmingham yesterday of his support for the war on terrorism, saying: "Now is not the time to waver but see it through."

In unscripted remarks, he said the weekend terrorist bombings in Turkey, the recent attacks in Saudi Arabia and continuing bombings in Iraq, meant Britain should "stand firm with the United States of America in defeating terrorism wherever it is and delivering us safely from what I genuinely believe is the security threat of the 21st century".

But Mr Blair made plain he completely backed the EU's stance against the US over illegal tariffs on steel imports, insisting that Washington must now respond to the World Trade Organisation ruling: "There will be from time to time these disagreements on issues to do with trade and we must stick very firmly to our position."

The prime minister also reaffirmed his vision of Britain as a bridge between the US and Europe.

"I firmly believe we have two big foreign policy pillars, the US alliance and our position in the EU. There's absolutely no reason to yield up either and we will not," he said to loud applause.

ICM interviewed a random sample of 1,002 adults aged 18 and over by telephone between November 14-16, 2003. Interviews were conducted across the country and the results have been weighted to the profile of all adults.

About that poll
by Rebecca Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003 at 4:43 AM

Dear "Irving"...
As a Briton, despite myself, I can't let that last posting of yours go unchallenged in the interests of balance. You see, with all due respect, you really don't have a clue. I wish I had more than 5 minutes to answer this since it would require several sociology books, but I have work to do so, in a nutshell, here goes.

Irving, what you absolutely don't get is how huge a change even this poll (which, despite its rather simplistic nature and the fact that it fails to ask whether people actually support Bush himself [I would personally say I "welcomed his visit" because I think he should face the music] is unsurprising in is results) represents in a country of people who really like Americans and always have done. We might not always like your policies, but we like you a lot as people, and you speak the same language as us so you're kind of more "normal" compared to the Europeans, who scare us a bit... And after all, your only real perceived fault as individuals is a tendency to walk into places and expect ice in your Coca Cola just like home, and as a nation of people who expect to find fish and chips and warm tea with milk on every corner at Spanish beach resorts, then we can relate to that. So yeah, Brits like Americans. We like them so much we usually line the streets to welcome their president in huge numbers with lots of fanfares and pomp and horses pulling fancy carriages and stuff...
For more on Anglo-American relations, read Greg Palast: http://www.gregpalast.com/detail.cfm?artid=188&row=4
Or read his whole book.

Secondly, of course opinion polls have tended to show greater support for the war since the suicide bombings started. Brits have a history of digging our heels in and getting stuck in the quagmires that we caused by going where we shouldn't have been in the first place - look at the situation in N. Ireland.
Of all my contacts in the UK, family and friends (range of political views) I can honestly say that I don't know of one person who supports this war and who approves of Bush. That is huge for the UK and that is what you, and people like you who pick up snippets from news briefs and TV soundbites and 4-question opinion polls, don't understand. Brits are just kind of an easy-going bunch really and it takes an awful lot to get us in a real flap about something. But we are in an unprecedented flap for us Irving, and since you like the Guardian so much now, I suggest you go and look at some of the other, more in-depth, articles that also appeared today, like the selection of letters from readers and personalities ("for" and "against") to George Bush (2 features), or Gary Younge's column (http://www.guardian.co.uk/antiwar/story/0,12809,1086769,00.html). I admit I was floored by the input from a 12-year-old boy (see below).

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to say all this Irving.
Cheers,
Rebecca

Dear George,

I would just like to say how much I hate you. You have done nothing positive in your whole time as president. You are the reason for the poverty in the Middle East. You have no idea what you are doing. You're killing loads of people, and that is not excluding your own nation too. There are still lots of very poor people in America, and they are getting poorer.

You keep making excuses about Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden, but all you were in Iraq for was the oil. Saddam had been there for 30 years, so why is it only now you decided to act? You keep talking about September 11 when all you do is bomb other countries and give Israel lots of money. It is a very bad idea that you have come over here.

I don't want to grow up in a country which is so influenced by you and your policies.
Mickey (12)

Rebecca - It figures you would be floored by the comments of a 12 year old since that's about the mentality of the whole 'No Blood For Oil' crowd. The kid is obviously regurgitating the same tripe that he hears from the alleged adults in his life. Bet they never brought up anything about the 300,000 dead in mass graves in Iraq. It's probably safe to say they never related any tales about those two wild and wacky sons of Saddam and their hilarious hijinks either. What he probably did hear was about the wonderful health care and education benefits available under Saddam's rule - available only to his minority ruling party but what the hey!

Thank you, Rebecca, for setting this clueless Yank straight. I have been wandering in the wilderness all this many years, and lo - you bring me words of blinding intellect from the Fisher Price crowd. "Mickey" is well on it's way to becoming a useful idiot. Start 'em out young.

I guess I'm supposed to also thank you for your typical elitism, re: the catty references to sociology books. But I'll just return the favor. I'll ask you to refer to those books, especially the chapters that examine highly suggestive lemmings, and their eagerness to blindly accept self loathing and white guilt and use terms like "collective". Yes, Rebecca, please regale us with your thoughts about being a Borg, instead of having an original and individual thought in that head of yours.

And, dearest catty Leftist, who said I all of a sudden liked the used asswipe the Guardian? Didn't like old Irving rubbing it in that schnoz of yours, eh? Try harder next time.

I agree with you on one point, however - the EU is going to be one of the darkest blots on the record of human history.

Irv and co.,
Wow you've been busy today.
Just wanted you to know - when you write all mean like that, I go up to the bar at the top left of the page and hit the "translate" button into Spanish or French. Well that can be pretty funny to start with (chickenshit - "merde de poulet"??), but not as good as when you then translate it back into English. Try it some time - the meaner it is the funnier the translations and re-translations can get. (Well what do you expect from a Fisher Price leftist?)
Now if you write politely - and one of you almost did back there - I'm more than happy to discuss my Fisher Price (actually I like to think of myself more as a LeapFrog type) elitism with you. Believe it or not I welcome a little political diversity on Indy Media, but not like this guys.
Till then, ciao,

Letter to the Guardian

Dear President Bush
by novelist Frederick Forsyth:

You will find yourself assailed on every hand by some pretty pretentious characters collectively known as the British left. They traditionally believe they have a monopoly on morality and that your recent actions preclude you from the club. You opposed and destroyed the world's most blood-encrusted dictator. This is quite unforgivable.

I beg you to take no notice. The British left intermittently erupts like a pustule upon the buttock of a rather good country. Seventy years ago it opposed mobilisation against Adolf Hitler and worshipped the other genocide, Josef Stalin.

It has marched for Mao, Ho Chi Minh, Khrushchev, Brezhnev and Andropov. It has slobbered over Ceausescu and Mugabe. It has demonstrated against everything and everyone American for a century. Broadly speaking, it hates your country first, mine second.

Eleven years ago something dreadful happened. Maggie was ousted, Ronald retired, the Berlin wall fell and Gorby abolished communism. All the left's idols fell and its demons retired. For a decade there was nothing really to hate. But thank the Lord for his limitless mercy. Now they can applaud Saddam, Bin Laden, Kim Jong-Il . . . and hate a God-fearing Texan. So hallelujah and have a good time.

Note to Rebecca
by Jeffrey-in-Washington-DC Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003 at 10:45 AM

Rebecca -
Regarding the UK's contempt for George Bush, that is all to evident. I believe that the UK has the luxury of contempt as it has not been under attack or under threat of attack in the same way the USA has been for past 2 years. 9/11 had nothing to do with George Bush. I am convinced that al Qaeda didn't even know the man.

But al Qaeda was convinced that the USA would back down from a fight. That's not going to happen - with or without Bush. Perhaps that is where the British and the Americans will part in our values.

But the UK does need to know - while they may delight in attacking George Bush, he is only representative of the American people and will to defend our nation against terrorism.

As a second generation American from United Kingdom, as much as I love UK, the USA is my home and my country. It does sadden me to see our nations' differences. But if that is the cost for the USA's national security, so be it.

Neighbors may want to be friends, and do everything they can to even be "family". But eventually no one is truly responsible for our families except ourselves.

In this case, President Bush is acting on the will of the American people to defend the USA from attack and to pro-actively fight back against the terrorists who threaten our (and your) nation.

We have no apologies for this. We should have no shame. It is an ugly, dirty, thankless job. But it is just as necesary, as it is thankless. The American people believe that or there would be no "George Bush" to mock and burn in effigy.

So remember, when you are hating George Bush, you are also hating the American people, like it or not.

Hopefully, over time Americans can forget about this, and our nations can bond again. Remember, if Britain is truly in trouble, who will they call? France? Germany? Saudi Arabia?

I think not. That has never been the case, and won't be in future.

Americans deserve more patience and understanding from the United Kingdom than this. God forbid that your nation ever sees a 9/11 of its own from today's terrorists. The USA sees NO difference between this enemy and the Nazis who bombed Britain.

Could you imagine our protesting Churchill?

I'm with the terrorists-and I hate my country too
by Rebecca Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003 at 12:06 PM

Fewer people than expected showed up for "antiwar" protests in London today; the Associated Press reports the count was "at least 50,000," well below the 100,000 organizers had predicted. Here's a photo showing a mob of people carrying signs saying, among other things, "World's #1 Terrorist"--a reference not to Osama bin Laden but to George W. Bush. Other placards had the name BUSH in big black letters against a red-blotch background suggesting spattered blood. Another photo shows a protester wearing "face paint" depicting the president as a vampire, including red paint around the mouth.

Maybe the 50,000 no-shows were shamed by the real blood their fellow anti-Americans spilled earlier in the day in Istanbul. CNN reports the death toll is 27 in a pair of suicide car-bombings against British targets: the consulate and the HSBC bank. Among the dead are Consul General Roger Short; at least 450 people are wounded. A caller claimed "joint responsibility" on behalf of al Qaeda and a Turkish terror outfit called the Great Eastern Islamic Raiders' Front.

It seems clear the bombers, by selecting British targets, were trying to send Britain a message: Do not stand with the United States in the war against Islamist terrorists. The 50,000 London protesters were lawfully exercising their democratic freedoms, but their message was the same.

Jeffrey
by one of the Rebeccas Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003 at 2:27 PM

Jeffrey,

This is the Rebecca that I think you were addressing.

Thanks for your post and for your ability to discuss things we disagree on without resorting to abuse. I appreciate that.

"Regarding the UK's contempt for George Bush,"

** Not the UK's contempt for Bush, but the contempt of a large part of the population for the policies that he embodies. People are extremely frustrated with what they perceive to be the US administration's total refusal to consider their concerns and the arrogance that that reflects. And their concerns do matter because they have been dragged into this partnership with the US against the better judgement of a big percentage of the population. Their tax money is paying for it, their soldiers are getting killed for it (did they mention on US TV that many relatives of British soldiers killed in Iraq refused to meet with him today?) That's what leads to the kind of angry symbolic gestures we saw in Trafalgar Square today (where incidentally, the numbers that turned out were MORE than forecast. The police said they expected 30-40,000 yesterday. Even the Met Police [famous for their under-estimations] had to acknowledge the presence of at least 100,000 people, on a weekday.)

"that is all to evident. I believe that the UK has the luxury of contempt as it has not been under attack or under threat of attack in the same way the USA has been for past 2 years."

** Well that's not true at all actually. Londoners have experienced several major downtown bombings over the past 30 years, and a lot of people have been killed or injured, as have Parisians in similar attacks incidentally - usually on public transport or in department stores. They know all too well what it is to be afraid of every stray-looking bag you see on the underground or metro. I've lived through that personally. I walked past blood-stained sidewalks in Paris a few days after the "Tati" store was bombed. It was stomach-wrenching. You don't need 2 planes and 3000 people dead to experience fear of terrorism.
But we're missing the point here which is, where's the link between terrorism and what's going on in Iraq? Apart from the fact that Iraq now seems to be becoming a hub of terrorism.

"But al Qaeda was convinced that the USA would back down from a fight".

** Well I can't answer that one I don't know any Al Qaeda and I'm not planning to.

"But the UK does need to know - while they may delight in attacking George Bush, he is only representative of the American people and will to defend our nation against terrorism. "

I disagree, I don't think he is representative of the American people. Check out some British talk websites. They've been flooded with Americans of two very distinct types: angry abusive people like some of those we experience here on Indy Media, and many, many people saying how good it felt to see Brits doing what they couldn't do - forcing Bush to hear them. Many mentioned how they wouldn't be allowed to protest freely like that in the US (ask the people in Miami getting rubber bullets fired on them right now because they are exercising their democratic right to protest the FTAA).

"... It does sadden me to see our nations' differences. But if that is the cost for the USA's national security, so be it. "

This is a non sequitur for me. Why would the opposition of the British people threaten the US' national security? I mean really why? Ask many Europeans and they will tell you that they fear the US threatens all of our futures far more than any terrorist group through the threats it presents to the future of this planet (Kyoto etc.), through its aggressive policies of pre-emptive strike, and through the overwhelming influence of corporate interests on US policy (intrinsically linked to the 2 previous points)...

"Neighbors may want to be friends, and do everything they can to even be "family". But eventually no one is truly responsible for our families except ourselves."

** if we want to look after our families then I suggest we start by leaving them a future in which they will have access to clean air, clean energy and won't be obliged to wear gas masks to go outside... Those are the biggest issues threatening the planet.

"In this case, President Bush is acting on the will of the American people to defend the USA from attack and to pro-actively fight back against the terrorists who threaten our (and your) nation. "

He is acting upon the will of some American people who have had the pants scared off them so much about "terrorists" they'll go for anything. Remember when people were duct-taping their doors? Remember Afghanistan anyone (it's still there)?

"We have no apologies for this. We should have no shame. It is an ugly, dirty, thankless job. "

Jeffrey - where does Halliburton come into this for example? is it a thankless task for them? And the oil companies, are they wringing their hands at the sacrifice they're having to make?

"So remember, when you are hating George Bush, you are also hating the American people, like it or not. "

Not true. That is extreme over-simplification. That's Bush-think ("you're either with us or against us") and that's exactly how his administration wants you to think.

"Hopefully, over time Americans can forget about this, and our nations can bond again. Remember, if Britain is truly in trouble, who will they call? France? Germany? Saudi Arabia?"

What kind of trouble? When they get invaded by Belgium? Seriously, I''m not knocking your point. We just disagree in terms of what the real "threats" to our countries are. I think the vast majority of Britons truly want a good relationship with the US but not under these conditions and not under this president.

"Americans deserve more patience and understanding from the United Kingdom than this."

Patience and understanding because their sons have been pulled into a war that is allegedly to fight terrorism but, given the horrible events in Turkey, seems if anything to be having the opposite effect.? They deserve a lot more than patience and understanding IMO. I feel sick for the good people of America who have bought into all this and are losing their sons while the children of senators and congressmen party at Yale.

"God forbid that your nation ever sees a 9/11 of its own from today's terrorists. The USA sees NO difference between this enemy and the Nazis who bombed Britain. "

Well without wanting to be facetious, that's a big part of the problem - it might help if their analysis of the situation was a little more refined.

"Could you imagine our protesting Churchill?"

Well, some of you might, if you read this quote of his (it's for real):
"The Americans will always do the right thing... After they've exhausted all the alternatives."

I guess we're still working through the options.
Thanks again for being civil.

Well, it looks like the protests in jolly old England were a Jolly old flop. Of course the protestors inflated their attendance figures to 200,000. The REAL number was pegged at 70,000. Gee, more people show up for soccer matches and football games. I can sense the "passion" in these peoples hearts. Their protest was weak, as is their position on the war.
Read the direct transcript of the speech of Blair and Bush. Can you argue with the facts that the Coalition intervention in Afghanistan and Iraq has improved the quality of life of these people and has allowed them more self-determination? That people in these countries have a higher sense of freedom and self-worth, since they are not bound to the rule of a totolitarian government or dictator.

Rebecca, you ignorant slut.
by 2Beers Friday, Nov. 21, 2003 at 12:04 PM

World affairs correspondent you are not Rebecca. Is terrorism okay for the Arab world? Is a despotic murderous regime fine and dandy for Arabs? Is this the government they deserve? Aren't your views a little racist?

If you truly are from jolly old UK, where I have had the privilege to spend much time, then you might better appreciate the idea that you can not deal wioth terrorists. Or is the IRa just a social club, and the Orangemen an alternative to the Knights of Columbus? You would know that the suspension of civil liberties was far worse in your own country than it is in the US. Or maybe in your sheltered world in Londontown you were unaware of the H-Blocks. Maybe you were unaware of the measures that the UK had to take to suppress the expansion of terrorism to the rest of its own country.

Maybe you were unaware that plastic bullets were banned in the EU, but were used by the Brits only in Northern Ireland.

Maybe you were unaware that you could be arrested on Trafalgar Square for even discussing a free Ireland. Maybe you were unaware that you could be hussled away merely on suspicion of involvement with the IRA (not with the Orangemen). Maybe you were unaware that the UK recognized nothing like Habeas Corpus when it came to dealing with terrorists.

Now not that I am taking sides in the northern Ireland issue, and of course you leftists will agree that I am free to promote the terrorsist activities of the Ulsters or the IRA. Of course you will all find no problem when good westerners, God fearing Irish Catholics, Catholic School Girls, or Presbytarian school boys are beaten, mamed or blown to Kildare.

No, Rebecca, you would not allow these activities to occur in your little world of luxuriant leftism. But you will deny the cause of freedom to a "lesser" people in a far away land when that position supports your hatred and distaste for a conservative President guided by principle. You see the US and Bush as the "terrorists." Were you so vocal in your own country? Did you speak out in Trafalgar Square agaisnt the injustices being worked by the British Government in Northern Ireland? No I would bet you a pint of Guiness that you didn't. I would bet you a pint of Smithwicks that you didn't even know about the issues of Norhtern Ireland. I would bet you two pints of yoru choice that you didn't speak out because they woudl have turned the water cannons on you.

No, you are just one of those fashionable liberals who are being worked by the left elite to support organizations that would oppress you like they have oppresed throughout history. THink about it, the organization that sponsored the London Protests of Bush, a shadowy group called "Stop the War Coalition," part of the Hate-America-International, has orchestrated a number of street "events" in support of the Taliban and the Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein since 2001. The coalition has a steering committee of 33 members. Of these, 18 come from various hard left groups: Communists, Trotskyites, Maoists, and Castrists. Three others belong to the radical wing of the Labour party. There are also eight radical Islamists. The remaining four are leftist ecologists known as "Watermelons" (Green outside, red inside).

Oh, but of course wee can;t talk like that about some elite AMerican skank liberal. It is only okay if Sadddam's boys are raping the hell out of some poor Arab girl, because of course, that is part of their culture and religion that we have no right to make such harsh judgmetns about.

Tell me again why life is worse after George Bush dethroned Saddma than it was under Saddam for those people? Asshole.

Is the IMC editorial collective going to allow my name to be used dishonestly? It's opproesing.

I had sex with another man tonight. Do I get a medal, Mommie?

warped preconceptions

"Were you so vocal in your own country? Did you speak out in Trafalgar Square agaisnt the injustices being worked by the British Government in Northern Ireland? No I would bet you a pint of Guiness that you didn't."

Did it absolutely have to be in Trafalgar Square? In that case you win. Where do I send your Guinness? Bottle or can? I could leave it for you at Dee's? (but then Kater Bean is right nearby and we all know that's full of Elitist Leftists who might be watching out for you, can't be too careful...)
If anywhere else in London or the UK counts, then I'm afraid you owe me a lot of Guinnesses 2B. Don't like Guinness so I'll settle for a Pernod and Black. Or ten. Thanks.
Gotta run. Won't be back for a while. Hope someone else will talk to you. Hey say hi to Mom and Irving (or are you Irv? you're Irv aren't you?).
Ciao
Rebecca

So where was it?
by 2Beers Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003 at 5:43 PM

So where in the UK did you protest, were you vocal, against the H-Blocks? I woudl love to know. Maybe we could check the records and see if you were arrested. That would be a real badge of honor now wouldn't it. So what do you think about the conditions of the H-Blocks? What is your postition on the UK's "unilateral" defiance of hte rest of the EU on the domestic use of plastic bullets? So why are you not back in the UK protesting T. Blair and the Queen Mum? Why are you here, as a guest, bashing our President (a fine gentleman of sture and honor I may add)?

I'll take my Guiness at Dee's. In fact I think you owe me two (hey, that is why they call me 2Beers) because I would double down for a Double Diamond that you never spoke a word against the conditions of your own governments use of plastic bullets, or the H-Blocks, ever, once. I would even double down on my double Double Diamonds that you had no F'ing idea what I was talkking about until you read my post and did a web search for some info.

Another Cadillac Liberal Rides the Bus.

So where are you going Becky? deported I trust.

Oh, almost forgot ...
by 2Beers Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003 at 6:21 PM

To answer that eternal question for you, Becky, I am not Irving. Irving is not me. I am 2Beers. The one, the only, the true, the blue, the proud .. 2Beers.

However, Irving, although much more, shall we say, "direct" than 2Beers' style is "comfortable" with, the always confident Irving is a welcome participant in these discussions. I like it that there now seems to be a veritable bevvy of right thinking panelists at these pages to provide you all with your daily dose of sanity. This allows us more free time, away from the IMC pages, to enjoy the freedoms of this great nation that our President, Geroge W. Bush, is so valiantly protecting. It also means that there are alot more people who seem to agree with 2Beers than agree with you and the rest of your Cadillac Liberal misdirected, poorly educate, ilk. There is now balance, shall we say.

For anyone who wonders "It must only be one person out there posting under all of these names"...HA! You are F'ing delusional. 2Beers posts only under the 2beers name. In fact, 2Beers is not a name, but a BRAND.

ALthough, in the interest of full disclosure, ther are some others who have tried to post under the 2Beers moniker. Mere pretenders, imposters, easily de-masked. All want to be 2Beers, but none can match the wisdom and stature of 2Beers.

I am 2Beers. I am 2Beers. You are all envious plebians. (And you know it, that is what makes it so bad.) Think of me. Think like me. Dream of me. I am your daddy.

Rock on Irving.

BTW: What did you think about those England Boys beating Australia for the Rugby World Cup? Didn't knwo about it? Are you really from England? I bet that accent is even an act to make yourself seem more "worldly". Hey, Andrew Carnegie was from Scotland, but Carnegie is not in the UK. Don't be ashamed, I like Carnegie.

Bush and Saddam are some kinky dudes.
Funny, I always thought Bush would be a bottom.
I'll stick with the Paris Hilton video, thanks, though.

Er...Hitler was not elected.
by Orion Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005 at 9:36 AM

I don't know why people are still saying this.

In 1932 Hitler ran for office against Hindenburg and had his head handed to him. There was no "hanging chad" question about the election: He lost by 3 to 1. However von Hindenburg's party was unable to form a majority in the German Parliament and went casting about for a minor party to form a coallition government: Hitler's National Socialists were the least objectionable of the available choices so von Hindenburg offered Hitler the "ceremonial" position of Chancellor of the Parliament as an enticement to make the deal. Hitler was delighted to take the offer because the Nazis were actually fading from power: people were getting tired of their empty rhetoric.

From his new official position Hitler was able to whip up support for the Party and, after a number of acts of sabatogue blamed on their traditional enemies the German Communist Party, the National Socialists were able to win an outright majority. They promptly amended the German Constitution to combine the office of President and Chancellor, dissolved all other political parties, and appointed Hitler Chancellor for Life ("Fuerher").

After his loss to von Hindenburg Hitler never faced another election and probably would have been beaten again in any fair election prior to the annexation of Austria. This is a big reason <i>why</i> he started annexing neighboring countries; it was highly popular and the German people got tired of his ranting speeches w/o quiick results.
